Survival 2013
Salt, 5"x3.25"
Designed for the 2012 Fukushima biennial in Japan, the two pine cones are components for survival, one for nature and one for humans. The real pine cone bears the seed of its ancestors, in each rigid leaf and unlike many plants, pine cones open up during a fire, dispersing its seeds and carrying on its legacy, ensuring new beginnings. The second pine cone is sculpted from a brick of salt, the human body can survive longer without food than it can without salt.
