Material Life 2015
This project exploits the multitude of tiny shops in the fashion capital of Shanghai, and brings attention to the selling and resourcing of apparel design. The shops open early and stay until late at night, with fluorescent lighting and spools of lace, leather, ribbon; drawers of buttons, zippers, hooks... Looking into these tiny shops, there’s a sense of claustrophobia and a hyper sensitivity to the buzzing fluorescent lights. To capture that feeling, the photographs are enhanced with super saturation.
